Arsenal overcame Chelsea in a 4-2 win on Wednesday night, with young stars Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe joining fellow academy graduate Eddie Nketiah in scoring the Gunners’ goals.

For Saka and Smith Rowe, the goals were milestones, as they both reached 10 Premier League goals for the first season in their careers.

Smith Rowe had never scored more than twice in a senior league campaign before this year, whilst Saka’s career-high was five. But with the extra responsibility they’ve taken on this season, their output has dramatically increased.

Smith Rowe’s right-footed finish was also notable because it means he’s now scored an equal number of goals (14) with his left foot and his right foot – in all club matches from the u21s and up.

The 21-year-old has never been afraid to take on a shot, regardless of which side the ball falls to him on, and he’s reaping the rewards this campaign.

The young duo will probably be happy enough to have reached double figures for the league season, but they can’t afford to stop there.

Arsenal have tough games against Manchester United, West Ham United, and Tottenham Hotspur coming up, and even fixtures against a reinvigorated Leeds United and Newcastle United don’t look easy. Even Everton are finding form.

Mikel Arteta’s side need as many goals as possible from those fixtures if they want to make the top four, so they need Saka and Smith Rowe to keep producing.
