Ryan Giggs has been involved with Salford City for over a decade, having co-owned the club alongside his fellow Class of ’92 teammates since 2014.

The Manchester United legend has now taken on a more hands-on role at the League Two side.

He has since stepped into a coaching position alongside manager Karl Robinson.

As per Chris Wheeler’s report for the Daily Mail, Giggs began working more closely with the first-team staff in January.

He has regularly joining Robinson on the bench during matches.

His increased involvement came after coach Simon Wiles left to join Manchester United in October.

Therefore leaving Salford short-staffed on the touchline.

Alex Bruce, the club’s assistant manager, was also briefly absent due to personal reasons, prompting Giggs to step in and offer his experience.

Speaking about his role, Giggs explained that it started as a short-term fix but soon became a regular match-day responsibility.

“Karl would literally have been on his own, so I’ve gone on the bench with him and just enjoyed it,” he said.

“We didn’t get another coach in, so when Alex came back, which was the next game, I just carried on.”

The 51-year-old has embraced the opportunity to be back in the thick of match-day emotions, something he admits he had missed.

“It’s good. You miss the emotions, the ups and downs, so I’ve enjoyed that part of it,” he added.

While he remains Salford’s director of football, his presence on the bench has effectively made him the club’s short-term assistant manager.
