Ruud van Nistelrooy has expressed his desire to stay at Manchester United after Ruben Amorim joins on Monday.
However, Amorim will bring five members of his coaching staff with him from Sporting CP to Old Trafford – where Van Nistelrooy will fit in is unknown, if at all.
Teams usually have no more than two assistant coaches, and Amorim is already bringing both of his with him from Sporting – Carlos Fernandes and Adelio Candido.
Unless Van Nistelrooy were to be demoted to a fitness coach, Amorim’s dugout appears to be full.
The 48-year-old already stepped down as PSV head coach and joined United as an assistant manager, so a further backwards step would be illogical.

Chris Wheeler revealed that it is looking more unlikely for Van Nistelrooy to remain at United after Amorim arrives.
‘It feels less and less likely right now, doesn’t it?’ he said.
‘Every time we ask him about it, he’s a little bit prickly about it.
‘It’s clear that he’s not very comfortable answering these kind of questions.
‘He confirmed again today that he’s not spoken yet to Amorim. He didn’t know when he was going to be speaking to him… days are counting down now until he comes in.’

Wheeler went on to compare Van Nistelrooy’s predicament to Ralf Rangnick’s back in 2o22.
In his eyes, once Amorim joins, the Dutchman may be out of the door and back into another coaching job.
‘My mind goes back to a couple of years back with Ralf Rangnick and the same sort of comments, same sort of things he was saying when Erik ten Hag was coming in,’ he said.
‘And the moment Erik came, Ralf Rangnick was long gone and it feels like a similar situation here that Ruud will see out these two games.
‘If Amorim brings in three coaches and other staff I can’t see where Ruud van Nistelrooy fits in.’
