We first stumbled across the artwork of Evgeny Yurichev via one of the Mortal Kombat character select screens, and were intrigued. When we saw his individual characters, we were sold.
The digital artist from Novokuznetsk, Russia has a particular style that works extremely well with the world of Mortal Kombat. It actually isn’t all that far removed from some of the artwork from the original Mortal Kombat Trilogy guide, though it definitely has a unique flair.
If you couldn’t tell by the banner and the fact that we put it first in the gallery, the Zelina Vega Jade is our favorite of the bunch. Not to take away from any of the other drawings, which are all badass, but this one just blew us away.
That said, Mileena and Kitana are never far behind, in fact, they’re second and third in the gallery. They already look great at first glance, but look a little closer and you’ll notice that Evgeny includes Mileena’s vicious trademark fangs faintly behind her mask.
The sheer amount of personality that shines through with these is palpable. Reptile reminds us of when we first saw him take his mask off in Mortal Kombat 2 to reveal that what looked like human flesh was merely a disguise hiding his scaly, reptilian form.
Sonya stands stoic with pupil-less eyes that’re usually reserved for undead or soulless characters like Scorpion and Shang Tsung, (everyone has them in this particular style) but she wears the look well and comes off as even more formidable than usual.
Check out the handful of characters as well as the select screens in the gallery below and let us know what you think of Evgeny Yurichev’s wonderful artwork. There’s a decent chance you’ll see more here on EventHubs in the future.
