NetherRealm Studios is just weeks away from dropping their first major expansion for Mortal Kombat 1, and it sounds like players may have even more to do after the update than previously thought.
On top of the new playable characters and Story Mode, the Khaos Reigns update will reportedly include a couple of additional modes as well that haven’t been announced yet.
These supposed revelations came via a prominent leaker labeled as a “Verified Insider” on Reddit named _FateUnknown_, who reappeared after a month to briefly post about the expansion.
The response in question actually came in response to a different leak post on the website claiming to have information about Kombat Pack 3 that appeared pretty obviously fake / dubious at face value.
An anonymous user stated the likes of Kabal, Jade, Skarlet and Blaze were coming as returning fighters while Doomguy, Fulgore from Killer Instinct and Kazuya Mishima from Tekken would be guest characters.
We already heard recently what Tekken Director Katsuhiro Harada had to say about Mortal Kombat crossovers, but it’s easy to see this looks fishy without much else context.
Instead of giving this presumed fake leak any more air, _FateUnknown_ responded to another fan asking about a couple of modes / features that have been floating around among data-miners and others for a while now.
Those would be for Online Practice and Warrior Shrine, which _FateUnknown_ claims both are coming in Khaos Reigns.
Looks who’s back, Fate!
Online practice & Warrior Shrine will be coming with the Khaos Reigns update!
He’s also said no new kameo’s a while back & seems like he’s right so far…
We have no clue what warrior shrine is yet. Maybe we will find out on the next Kombat Kast.#MK1 pic.twitter.com/Yf0okcTANg

Online Practice is pretty self explanatory feature that allows players to do testing with others in an online setting that has been around a long time but is thankfully becoming more common now.
Data-miner thethiny also claims that Online Practice is already in the game files, but the servers can’t be accessed and used yet.
Warrior Shrine, however, remains a bit more of a mystery as to what exactly it’s going to contain.
Some previous data-mines suggested it may be a way to unlock previous Kombat League or seasonal skins / gear, which does sound like a sensible way to bring older content back in.
According to _FateUnknown_, however, that’s not the case.
So is it going to be a new single-player or multiplayer mode or perhaps something more akin to like the classic Krypt? we still don’t have much of an idea on that front.

Although Khaos Reigns is fast approaching, there is still a decent chunk they haven’t really shown off yet.
We already got to see Cyrax and Sektor in action in their expanded trailers and Kombat Kast, but Noob Saibot has been continuing to hide mostly in the shadows.
NetherRealm will likely be showcasing Noob in the same way within the next week or two, so we shouldn’t wait much longer to see what the dark ninja has in store for.
That would also mark the next best time for the developers to unveil what Warrior Shrine is going to be — assuming it is coming after all.
The leaker did previously claim that no new Kameos were coming to MK1, and while there haven’t been any announced for the Khaos Reigns expansion so far, Ed Boon did raise some potential picks for fans to vote on recently.
Since none of this has been confirmed of course, we should continue to take this information with a very large grain of salt until NRS says otherwise.
Khaos Reigns is set to launch on September 24 with the new Story plus Cyrax, Sektor and Noob as new DLC characters with Scream’s Ghostface, the Terminator’s T-1000 and Conan the Barbarian dropping sometime in 2025.
