It’s only five days now until Ruben Amorim joins Manchester United as their next permanent manager.
There was already excitement building about the Sporting Lisbon manager moving to take up the hot seat at Old Trafford, however his recent domination of Manchester City took this to a whole new level.
Amorim managed to orchestrate a 4-1 win for Sporting over City in the Champions League thanks to a Viktor Gyokeres hat-trick and a Maximiliano Araujo goal.
Now, the hype for the Portuguese manager taking on Pep Guardiola’s side in the Premier League has gone through the roof.
However, in a move of real class, Amorim downplayed the result speaking to media after the game.

Following Sporting’s victory, it’s understandable that much of the press conference was focused on Amorim’s move to United, having just beaten their biggest rivals.
However, speaking to TNT, Amorim insisted that there was no link between this win and how he was going to be leading the play at Manchester United
Amorim commented: “No, I think, as I said, the result is deceiving. We are a team outside of the big five, and we are allowed to play like this. Defensively, waiting for the counter-attack.”
He continued: “When you go to Manchester United, whether it takes a while or not, you have to face these teams, and it’s a completely different story. And so that’s the work we want to do there, which is not defending all the time.
“Manchester United have to face these clubs (head on), and so it’s going to be a completely different story. There will be rivalry, I’m not one for big conflicts, I’m defending the team to the maximum, but let’s see what happens.”
