Manchester United’s squad are busy preparing for their new era under Ruben Amorim.
The Portuguese manager comes to Old Trafford bringing a very clear identity for the squad on the pitch, something Erik ten Hag was criticised for not having.
Amorim utilises a 3-4-3 system which has brought a lot of success at Sporting, however, some of United’s stars will need to adapt to fit into the team.
The main players that need to be concerned for their spot in the squad are the full-backs and wingers, with Amorim primarily only using wing-backs in his system.
So, full-backs like Noussair Mazraoui. Diogo Dalot, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia will either need to look at coming into the wing-back position with an attacking drive or convert to more of a central defensive role.
For the wingers like Amad Diallo, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Marcus Rashford, the options are to get used to dropping back a bit as wing-backs or come more central number 10s in a front three.

Now it’s being reported that Amorim has already worked out his preferred options on either flank.
Ruben Amorim’s left flank
On the left, Give Me Sport has reported that Amorim is keeping a close eye on Luke Shaw’s recovery.
The 39-year-old is reportedly wanting to give Shaw the chance to stake his claim on his role in the squad, with Amorim’s system suiting the England international.
However, Amorim is keen to be cautious with his recovery, not wanting to risk the left-back facing yet another injury after he’s been ruled out for nearly a year.
Whether Shaw fits in as the left-wing-back, or slotting in on the left side of the back three remains to be seen, but it all relies on him avoiding injury.
The right side for Ruben Amorim
However, on the right flank, Amorim is understood to be favouring Amad Diallo.
Give Me Sport has also reported that Amad is already making his mark on the new manager, with Amorim impressed with what he’s seen so far.
Whilst it’s understood that Amad is one of the more likely to feature in Amorim’s first United squad to take on Ipswich, it’s unsure if that’s in the lesser familiar role to Amad of wing-back, or as one of the front three.
Either way that Amorim chooses to set up with this pair, both Shaw and Amad are clear to be part of the new manager’s favoured line-up.
