Ruben Amorim is already making plans for a reunion with former striker Viktor Gyokeres as the January transfer window is officially open.
With a run of four losses, Manchester United sit in 14th place and have be knocked out of the Carabao Cup.
Over the last four games, taking on Tottenham, Bournemouth, Wolves and Newcastle, United have only scored three goals, conceding 11.
This shows the club’s need for a new prolific goalscorer, with Gyokeres certainly fitting the bill.
The Sweden international is currently the top goalscorer in Liga Portugal, with 18 goals and three assists in 16 games. Across all competitions his stats are even more impressive, with 27 goals and six assists in 27 games.
Having come into his own under Amorim, previous reports have claimed that Gyokeres “has his heart set” on a move to United to continue under his former coach.
However, United will need to generate around £63 million to stand a chance of agreeing a deal with Sporting for their star striker.
Unfortunately for United, they currently have no transfer funds available, meaning that this fee will need to be generated through sales.

Manchester United look to replace Joshua Zirkzee with Viktor Gyokeres
TuttoJuve have now reported that United are preparing to part ways with new signing Joshua Zirkzee to generate the funds needed for his replacement.
Zirkzee arrived at Old Trafford in the summer, however his United experience has been far from smooth.
Even before arriving, it’s recently been reported that then manager Erik ten Hag didn’t want to sign the striker, with him arriving overweight.
Due to this, Zirkzee’s game time has been significantly limited, with the striker only being used in the Newcastle game as a last resort replacement for suspended Bruno Fernandes. Unfortunately it didn’t work out with Kobbie Mainoo replacing him halfway through the first half.
With much speculation that Juventus are looking to offer the striker a lifeline return to Italy, United are hoping a deal could kick-start the raising of funds to upgrade to a striker like Gyokeres.
