Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has named his two favoured replacements for Andre Onana after the first-choice keeper’s dubious performance for the club this season.
Since his £43.8M transfer to Old Trafford in 2023, the Cameroonian has had a mixed bag of performances, but is still widely regarded as one of Europe’s strongest stoppers.
The 28 year-old was also compared to United legend Peter Schmeichel by TNT commentator Darren Fletcher after his quality double save against Southampton’s Tyler Dibling and Mateus Fernandes in their 3-1 clash in January.
Now though, with Onana looking to the Saudi Pro League to continue his career, his potential replacement is next on Amorim’s agenda.
The Portuguese manager has since named two players he has picked to fill for Onana between the sticks.
According to The Sun, via TeamTalk, “Royal Antwerp’s highly-rated stopper Senne Lammens is on the radar of a host of Premier League clubs, [and] Lille’s brilliant 23-year-old goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier has been tracked by United and City for months.”
Both players are contracted at their respective clubs until 2027, with Chevalier valued at around €30M and Lammens only €4.5M, and so both would have to exit their contracts early to move to United in the summer.
While both young and talented keepers, Chevalier’s larger price tag can be attributed to his strong performance with Lille this season and his recent call-ups to the French Olympic team and the French national team last year.
Lammens, on the other hand, is yet to make any national appearances, but reportedly will only be available for purchase from Lille for around £40M.
Amorim will have a raft of European teams, most notably their main rivals in blue, if he hopes to acquire either of his first-choice replacement keepers, and hope that whomever he chooses can live up to the stellar performances Onana has made for the Red Devils.
