Manchester United’s quarter-final tie with Olympique Lyonnais was anything but straightforward for the Red Devils.
The club’s Europa League journey now hangs in the balance after a dramatic 2-2 draw away to Lyon in the quarter-final first leg.
While Leny Yoro and Bruno Fernandes were among the brighter sparks on the night, United’s frailties reared their head again when it mattered most.
This wasn’t the first time United have let a lead slip late in a European tie, but the manner of the draw – and who was responsible – has stirred fresh controversy and criticism.
The focus is now firmly on next week’s second leg at Old Trafford, with United desperate to turn a frustrating result into a route to the semi-finals.
Andre Onana was once again in the spotlight after two costly errors denied United a win, with the second mistake coming deep into stoppage time to hand Lyon a late equaliser.
The Cameroonian keeper had already come under fire before the match due to a war of words with ex-United midfielder Nemanja Matic, who called him “one of the worst goalkeepers in United’s history.”
Andre Onana had previously claimed United were “way better” than Lyon, a comment that backfired spectacularly after his display.

Despite the criticism and growing concerns from fans, manager Ruben Amorim has come out in full support of his No.1.
“It can happen,” Amorim said post-match.
“I make more mistakes than them during these last games and these last months.”
He added, “I’m really confident in Andre… The best thing is to look at the goals, all the actions that Andre had in the game.
“That’s the best way to help any player.”
Amorim also played down the significance of Matic’s comments, insisting that pre-match drama was not a distraction and that the focus now is firmly on correcting errors before the return leg.
As United prepare for another high-stakes night at Old Trafford, the pressure is mounting – not only to win, but to restore trust in their most scrutinised player.
