With just a few weeks left in the season, Manchester United are staring down the barrel of their worst-ever Premier League campaign.
Ruben Amorim’s side were torn apart at St James’ Park, extending their miserable run of results and equalling their all-time top-flight record of 14 defeats in a single season.
While injuries and inconsistency have plagued the Red Devils, questions around Amorim’s tactics and certain players’ futures continue to swirl.
United’s only hope of salvaging this dismal season lies in the Europa League, where they’re currently level at 2-2 with Lyon heading into a decisive second leg at Old Trafford on Thursday.
But for one club legend, the problems run much deeper — and there’s no holding back.
Roy Keane has unleashed a scathing attack on Manchester United’s current squad following their embarrassing 4-1 defeat to Newcastle on Sunday.
Speaking to Sky Sports, the former captain described his old team as “physically and mentally weak,” slamming their lack of fight and discipline after a second-half collapse.
“That’s 14 league games they’ve lost,” Keane said.

“There’s not enough players who run in the team.
“United now are physically and mentally a weak team.”
Keane’s comments came after goals from Harvey Barnes (2), Bruno Guimaraes, and Sandro Tonali cancelled out Alejandro Garnacho’s first-half equaliser, with United barely laying a glove on the hosts after the break.
Despite similar possession stats, Newcastle dominated the contest — registering 37 touches in United’s box compared to just 11 from the visitors.
Roy Keane believes the players, not just the manager or the board, must take responsibility: “They’ve lost 14 last season and 14 this season — you’ve got to point the finger at this group of players.”
He also questioned Amorim’s system, suggesting the new manager hasn’t adjusted to the Premier League: “Someone must say can we tweak it? The players can’t cope with it.”
United now face a critical week that could define their entire campaign, but Keane’s damning verdict has put the spotlight firmly on the squad’s mentality — and the alarming gap in quality.
