Round start advantage bug has major impact on tournament match for Mortal Kombat 1 despite being known since week 1

Back in November, we highlighted how certain circumstances allow a player to move before the round start in Mortal Kombat 1. X-Azeez, the individual that posted about the bug’s occurrence, noted that he’s actually been aware of the situation since week 1 when the game was first launched.

Unfortunately, NetherRealm Studios has not yet addressed this bug. Since its discovery, the community seems to know a little bit more about what’s going on here.

It turns out that this bizarre sequence is most prominent with Raiden. The character is already top tier, but this glitch has a way of really pushing Raiden’s power level over the top in Mortal Kombat 1.

Previously, we’ve only seen how a character can move before the start of a round, but it turns out that Raiden can actually use an advancing normal during this period. What’s worse is that the opponent isn’t even allowed to block when this happens, resulting in Raiden getting a free combo if the two characters start while near one another.

STGlE.Vanity has reported that she basically lost a tournament match at game five against a Raiden user due to this bug still being in the game, months after it was discovered and reported. She posted a clip that shows her holding the block button, but she ended up getting hit anyhow.

This situation shouldn’t be treated as the Raiden player’s fault. Regardless, it does feel like NetherRealm Studios needs to hasten their efforts at addressing these sort of issues so that these sort of problems don’t come up in tournaments or otherwise.
