Rotary Club Partners With Hospital, Donates Cash To Breast Cancer Patients

The Rotary Club of Abuja, Maitama has donated the sum of N300,000 to three breast cancer patients who underwent free surgery at Silver Cross Hospital, Abuja.

Speaking during the donation ceremony on Sunday, the President, Rosemond Uche, stated that the club decided to partner with the hospital because its vision aligned with that of Rotary club; to help the indigents.

“He has been conducting free breast cancer surgery and he has done it throughout July. From what we gathered, he had more than 50 patients who he screened. After that, he has done free breast cancer surgery for more than ten patients.

“We are excited because this is what Rotary is known for; helping the indigents and the needy. This month is our maternal and child care. This is our month of taking care of mothers and children. He is doing this within the month and we decided to come and partner with him.

“Since he has finished with the free surgery, we decided that what we can do is to pick the people who have commenced chemotherapy and see how we can help them. We gave N100,000 each to three women,” she said.

Uche further promised that the Club will also partner with the hospital in other projects it is working on.

She also urged women to always undergo self breast examination and visit the hospital immediately if they notice any abnormalities in their breast or any part of their body.

“My advice to women as far as breast cancer is concerned is to not wait to the level when it will advance. They should do self-examination and visit the hospital immediately if they notice any abnormalities. Early detection is important. Don’t just wait so that it wont continue to advance,” she said.

Earlier, while receiving members of the Club, the Medical Doctor of the Hospital, Dr. Patrick Ezie appreciated the Club for their donation.

He disclosed that apart from the free breast surgery, the hospital has undertaken a Safe Mother Project to cater for pregnant women in various communities who cannot afford quality healthcare services.
He expressed hope that with the Club’s support, the hospital will be able to help more indigent people in the communities.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Joy Eyogobe appreciated the Club for the donation adding that it will go a long way to help in her treatment.

“I did not expect this. I am so happy. It is God that touched them to do this and I pray God will open doors for them,” she said.
