For years now, Justin Wong has seemingly given a variety of opportunities to recreate Evo Moment 37 against him in Street Fighter 3: Third Strike. This was a moment in which BST|Daigo Umehara was famously able to evade chip damage against Wong’s Chun-Li using a super thanks to a series of perfectly timed parries.
One would think that Evo Moment 37 would be to Justin Wong’s shame, but he has previously admitted that even he was glad that it happened looking back considering its importance to the FGC’s culture. As it turns out, someone else has finally been able to recreate the situation that Wong had set up for himself, though the game’s rollback netcode briefly gave Justin Wong false hope before snatching it away.
With Chun-Li only have about a sliver of life remaining, Wong knew he had to score a few hits against the opposing Ken player before scenario could properly be set up. Despite repeatedly claiming that the situation was “so intense,” Wong was able to keep his cool and secure the needed pokes thanks to Chun-Li’s fantastic buttons.
As the opponent began parrying hits, Wong appear to cover his face with his hand. He was putting on a show as if to indicate that he didn’t want to go through Evo Moment 37 again.
Though the opponent was able to parry the first eight hits of Chun-Li’s super, the ninth one appeared to give Wong the victory. Justin Wong reacted accordingly and seemingly appeared to be ready to begin celebrating.
However, this scene actually only played out on Justin Wong’s screen. In reality, the opponent had perfectly timed their parries up to this point. The game would eventually rollback to show that Wong hadn’t actually won yet.
Unfortunately for Wong, the opponent’s consistency was as good as Daigo’s as that faithful day. Of course, this would leave Wong flabbergasted that the game had taken away his victory in the manner that it had.
