As a direct fall out of Friday 8 July's state Security Council meeting, His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Cross River State, Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade, initiated 'Operation Show of Force' in Calabar yesterday 9 July 2016 in view of combating the recent spate of criminal activities in the state capital, Calabar.
According to the Governor, 'We are out here as a show of force to demonstrate that we are in absolute control and we are going to keep Calabar totally safe,” adding that “we have done a complete surveillance of all the possible routes, all the water areas through which these criminals escape'.
Gov Ayade who claimed that he knows who the criminals are based on available intelligence assured people loving citizens to go about their normal businesses as the situation was under control now. In his words, 'we are also embarking on a door to door search, and cordoning off of Calabar to ensure that nobody exits without a thorough search.”
Further hinting that:' I am sure that with the number of combat vehicles, with the armoury they (criminals) saw on display today, including military officers, combined team, Operation Skolombo, all on duty, tells you that Cross River State is an action state and we can't afford the agony of having any tension any more'.
Commissioner of Police, Jimoh Ozi-Obeh, assured the citizenry of the combat readiness of his men, while the State Security Adviser Jude Ngaji also assured Cross Riverians of government readiness to address the social malaise these criminals posed.
Meanwhile, while the entire contingent of the Operation Show of Force were parading the state capital, Calabar with the governor at the lead, reports have it that armed men stormed Mbukpa street and raided a handful of business outfits popular among which is Sparks Shop. Satellite Town in UNICAL was not exempted from the robbery itinerary, etc.
This is how eye witnesses account reported the incident:

Nowadays in Calabar, 12 midnight is more safer than day time. My friend Peter, who left my house at 5pm called 35 minutes later to tell me that armed rubbers just finished rubbing his shop (Sparks Shop) at Mbukpa, Calabar South.
*It could be said that there were two Shows of 'Force' yesterday —the illegitimate one by armed robbers in Calabar South and the legitimate one in Calabar Municipality. Cross Riverians require the latter 'show' to prevail preeminently.
