Today we’d like to introduce you to Rob Kuehne.
It’s an honor to speak with you today. Why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. How did you get to where you are today?
Thank you for having me. In short, I would say that I discovered in grad school that I have a passion for helping people, and many of the very successful guest speakers who would come to SMU to speak to us had a common message: “To be successful, find out what you are passionate about and find a way to make a living doing it. If you do that, you will be successful.” And so nearly 15 years ago, I entered the Real Estate/Mortgage industry and since then I have been blessed with the opportunity to help hundreds of families buy their homes. Buying a home is not something people do every day – and some people may only do so once in their lifetime – so it’s special to be able to assist in that process for them. I take pride in thinking out of the box as a problem-solver and I am excited to use that energy to help people when others in my field have told them it was not possible.
I’m sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?
While I love all my children and am thankful for each of them, I became a father at 20 and this greatly impacted the direction of my career. When my first child was born, I had to work tons of overtime in a warehouse every week just to pay the bills. Eventually I found my way back to college and spent years both working full-time and going to school full-time. That was a brutal, sleep-depriving period of time. I have also been divorced and have had to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to protect my rights as a father; not only was that an expensive hurdle to overcome, but it also was very emotional and stressful for a period of time that lasted for years. And for one last one, I had a business fail in 2015 that resulted in a company and personal bankruptcy that adversely affected people who were and are very close to me. It was a terrible, terrible experience. But success never comes easy, and failure is a part of the process of learning and growing and coming back even stronger.
Let’s talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?
I am a regional mortgage loan originator for a nationwide company and I lead a team that helps people either buy homes, to refinance their existing mortgages to save a lot of money every month, or to refinance to access their equity to allow them to accomplish dreams of their own! All of my team members and I believe strongly in the old saying that people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care. While we are confident that our interest rates are extremely good and our processes are the smoothest possible, no one will find a team more committed to helping them simplify the process of achieving their goals. Each of our clients is like family to us. I also mentioned previously that I take pride in thinking out of the box as a problem-solver, and there have been countless times that we were able to help someone when my competitors told them it could not be done.
What’s your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?
A keen sense of attention to detail and hard work will pay off. For attention to detail, I like to point out that good companies do the big things well, but excellent companies also do the little things well. Pay attention to everything going on around you in your life and think about what is being implied as well as what is being said or done. Make your goal to create an experience for each and every customer that will make them your raving fans, and their word of mouth advertising for you will help you more than any other marketing you can do.
Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?
Success is a very personal term for each of us; there is no single definition of success. For many, success is working during the day and relaxing in the evenings and spending time with loved ones. For me, success is a balance of quality time with my family and generating a sufficient income to provide my children with the best opportunities that I can.
What’s next for you?
With the mortgage business, I have truly found my calling. So my next steps are to focus on growing the market I serve, to provide more people with the help that they need when it comes to real estate and mortgage. I also love to contribute to charitable organizations and I do so regularly every month. I would love to grow the resources that I can provide to those causes.
Finally, how can people connect with you if they want to learn more?
