The Rivers Restoration Movement (RRM), a frontline political group, has expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his prompt intervention in the Rivers State crisis.
In a statement signed by Hon. Johnson Georgewill, Director-General of RRM, and Mrs. Sarima Akpata, Secretary, the group acknowledged the President’s efforts in rescuing the state from a protracted political disagreement that led to the suspension of the executive and legislative arms of government.
The group also commended the Sole Administrator, Admiral Ibokete Ibas Rtd, for bringing stability, peace, and unity among state actors.
The group noted that the Sole Administrator’s efforts have prevented impunity, high-handedness, threats, and the annihilation of the legislative arm.
In addition, the RRM stated that 85% of the Ijaws who opposed the suspension of Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, did not support him in the 2023 elections.
The group claimed that these individuals were either non-Rivers Ijaws who do not vote in the state or Ijaws who did not support Fubara’s candidacy.
The RRM also emphasized that the majority of well-meaning Rivers Ijaws support President Tinubu’s efforts and the 8-point resolution peace pack.
The group, however, thanked traditional rulers, opinion leaders, and the Rivers Elders Council for supporting the Sole Administrator in averting anarchy in the state.
Furthermore, the RRM expressed gratitude to the leader of Rivers State politics and FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for his role in liberating the Rivers Ijaws politically in 2023.
The group acknowledged Wike’s efforts in supporting Fubara’s emergence as Governor.
