The people of Isiokpo Kingdom in Ikwerre local government area of Rivers State on Saturday tested civilisation again after 3 years as electricity power supply was restored in the community.
PARADISE NEWS learnt that the community has been living in darkness with no hope of seeing and recognising even the faces of those that visit them for over 3 years now. But, thanks to the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, they are now liberated.
And as part of the events to celebrate the restoration of power, the people of Isiokpo organised a Wrestling Festival which according to them signals a new lease on life and the beginning of better days.
Expressing his delight, one of the residents of Isiokpo said, “We are very very happy. We want to thank Mr President for using our son, Dr. Chris Oyirinda and the NDDC to restore light in our Community. We have been in darkness for 3 years and our businesses have suffered so much. But today God has used the NDDC people to bring back our light, we are so happy. God Bless NDDC and Dr. Oyirinda for their good works in Niger Delta.”

The ancient Kingdom of Isiokpo is the both traditional and political headquarters of Ikwerre LGA as it plays host to the Local Government Council Secretariat, hence, it is in the middle of economic activities and serves as the seat of power in Ikwerre LGA.
Albeit, this economically and culturally rich kingdom, suffered gross darkness occasioned by lack of power supply for 3 whole years without anyone coming to their aid, including the Local and State Government.
Moved by this sad and pitiable situation, the Prof. Braimbraifa-led management team of the NDDC initiated and completed a power project in Isiokpo to ensure the restoration of power and bring an immediate end to the long period of darkness and alleviate the pains and sufferings of the people in the area.
