Manchester United legendary centre back Rio Ferdinand has slammed manager Erik ten Hag for continually playing Casemiro at centre back despite all the mistakes he has been complicit of especially in last Monday’s 4-0 capitulation at Selhurst Park.

Man United’s defensive unit continues to struggle with injuries meaning the Brazilian partnered Jonny Evans once again at the heart of defense in yesterday’s 1-0 loss to bitter rivals Arsenal at home.

Casemiro was caught out failing to push out to set the offside trap leading to the only goal of the game.

Ferdinand was annoyed that ten Hag played Casemiro out of position again and reckons the Dutchman should’ve played Sofyan Amrabat at right-back with Aaron Wan-Bissaka moving into central defence.

“When is he going to take Casemiro out of the back line? Why can’t Sofyan Amrabat play there? Or Scott McTominay? I just don’t think it’s fair, ” Rio lamented on his Vibe with FIVE YouTube channel.

All the injuries in the backline have left Evans as the only fit recognized senior centre back and calling him fit is a bit of a stretch as he only returned to training last week.

Manager Erik ten Hag has had to call up his most experienced midfielder in Casemiro to fill in at centre back in four occasions now but it has not gone according to plan in the last two matches.

“If you see a few mistakes from someone who is playing there, who has never played there before, and you see the mistakes early, you should go, ‘You know what, I’m not going to do this to you’ – I don’t care how experienced he is,” Rio defended Casemiro.

All these injuries are intensifying at the worst possible time as United desperately claw at European football but their efforts have seen them only win two of the last 11 games in the Premier League run in.
