It appears that Manchester United is not planning to make Sofyan Amrabat’s move a permanent fixture in their lineup after the upcoming summer transfer window.
Despite the buzz during the summer, which ultimately led to Amrabat joining the Red Devils on loan from Fiorentina, a long-term stay seems unlikely.
The loan deal for the Moroccan midfielder is reportedly costing Erik ten Hag’s team around €10m (£8.6m), with an option to buy set at €20m (£17.1m) plus an additional €5m (£4.3m) in add-ons. Despite this, Amrabat’s tenure at United might be short-lived.
Amrabat, 27, has been a staple in the squad this season, having played 17 times across various competitions. He’s been particularly noticeable in recent league games against Chelsea, Bournemouth, and Liverpool, where he completed the full 90 minutes.
However, The Sun claims that Manchester United is unlikely to convert Amrabat’s loan into a permanent transfer next summer. It’s believed that Ten Hag, the team’s head coach, is already mapping out strategies for the upcoming season that don’t include Amrabat, who was also a target for Liverpool in the summer.
Doubts about Amrabat’s fit with Premier League play style seem to be a factor in United’s decision. Meanwhile, other clubs are reportedly monitoring his situation closely.
The club is also considering the progression of Kobbie Mainoo, which influences their stance on Amrabat’s future. With Amrabat nearing the last 18 months of his contract with Fiorentina, a departure from the Italian club next summer seems likely, regardless of United’s decision.
In their upcoming match against West Ham United, Amrabat’s starting position is uncertain due to Bruno Fernandes’s return from suspension. This could see Scott McTominay shifting to a deeper role, potentially moving Amrabat to the bench.
Manchester United appears to be reshaping their midfield, with reports suggesting that Donny van de Beek is close to securing a loan move to Eintracht Frankfurt.
Additionally, Casemiro is rumored to be considering an offer from Saudi Arabia, and Christian Eriksen is reportedly available for transfer, should a reasonable bid come in.
