Over the last few weeks, the management of Manchester United’s first team squad has slowly begun to take shape.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has put his faith in Erik ten Hag, with the Dutchman having won two trophies in two years at Old Trafford. Now going into the final year of his contract, ten Hag is expected to undergo negotiations to extend his contract beyond next summer.
With ten Hag firmly in place, the rest of his backroom staff can begin to take shape, with ex-United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy set to join the coaching team.
Last week, Go Ahead Eagles’ manager, Rene Hake, was announced as United’s new assistant manager, with the two clubs finalising the details to see the move to Old Trafford.
The 52-year-old has said that when ten Hag approached him to join United, he didn’t need to think over the opportunity very much before saying yes to move to the Premier League giants.
Hake is excited for the challenge of experience coaching in the Premier League, which the Dutchman regards as the best competition in the world.
Speaking to ESPN Netherlands, Hake discussed being approached by the United manager, saying: “Erik called me and asked if I was open to it.”
He continued :“I don’t think I have to explain that I didn’t have to think about it very long before saying yes.
“It’s a great step for me and a great challenge.
“It will be great to gain experience in the best league in the world.”
With ten Hag, Hake and van Nistelrooy nearly in place in charge of the coaching team, the Red Devils are looking to go into next season much stronger, with the pre-season being a great opportunity for the new back room staff to find their feet.
