A Red Level woman was killed in a head-on collision Thursday in Okaloosa County, Florida while another driver involved was arrested and charged with DUI manslaughter.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a two-vehicle head-on collision occurred in the area of State Road 189 (Galliver Cutoff) and Stanley Lane in Baker.
Erica Skipper, 28, died when the 2024 Hyundai Palisade she was driving was struck by a 2020 Ford pickup driven by Charles Stillman, 58, of Holt, Florida.
Reports indicate Stillman, who was traveling southbound on Stanley Lane at approximately 6:48 p.m., crossed into the opposing lane as Skipper was driving northbound. She attempted to swerve right and avoid the collision but was unable to as the front of the Ford pickup collided with the front of the Hyundai. Skipper was pronounced deceased at the scene. Stillman was reported to have minor injuries.
A corporal with Florida Highway Patrol’s Traffic Homicide Investigations Unit spoke to Stillman following the incident. Coupled with evidence on the scene, he was determined to be under the influence of alcohol. He was placed under arrest following his release from Fort Walton Beach Medical and was booked into the Okaloosa County Jail with no bond pending his first appearance. Stillman was charged with one count of DUI manslaughter.
