SACRAMENTO — The National Weather Service issued a red flag warning Saturday for the Sacramento Valley region due to windy, dry conditions in wildfire areas.
The warning area extends from Redding to Vacaville, including foothills below 2,000 feet, starting at 11 p.m. and running through Monday night. Below 1,000 feet, affected counties include Butte, Glenn, Tehama and Colusa.
“The combination of gusty winds and low humidity can cause fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity,” NWS said in the alert. “Outdoor burning is not recommended.”
NWS forecasts northerly winds of 10 to 20 mph with gusts of 25 to 35 mph, coupled with relative humidity as low as 10 to 20 percent on Sunday and Monday. The highest risk areas are west of Interstate 5, below 1,000 feet.
