Earlier last week, it was reported that Manchester United were interested in bringing in veteran striker Joselu who is currently on loan at Real Madrid.
With Anthony Martial certainly leaving in the summer, United will definitely be looking for a striker to deputize young Hojlund and assist in his development. It was reported that United admired the experience of Joselu and saw him perfect for the role.
As Sport Bible reports, the 34-year-old Spaniard has rejected the chance to join United, expressing his desire to stay a Madrid beyond his loan.
The report also states how Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti is pleased with Joselu and would be willing to keep him longer.
“He’s doing everything he needs to stay, playing spectacularly,” Ancelotti told reporters.
“It’s a blessing to have a striker with this quality, different, always willing. When he comes in, he helps. We are all delighted with him.” Ancelotti concluded.
Joselu himself had earlier expressed his desire to remain in Madrid even if Los Blancos did not include a purchase clause after acquiring him on loan from Espanyol.
In an interview with ABC, he explained: “I hope to stay with Real Madrid on a permanent deal.
“I had a clause that if Espanyol went down, I could go out on loan. And well, Madrid had the opportunity, they thought it was convenient to be able to trigger it. And here I am.
“Well, there’s a contract, an option to buy, Madrid can buy me in the summer. There are many situations, if Espanyol do not get promoted, if they do go up. A lot of things that can happen.” he concluded.
He has done surprisingly well, especially considering he was only signed as a squad player but has since exceeded all expectations
Across all competitions, the forward has scored 14 goals while also providing three assists.
He still makes a strong case for a 0ff-the-bench option who can comfortably get you 15–20 goals a season.
