Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti WILL be at Stamford Bridge tonight after testing negative for Covid

Carlo Ancelotti is flying to London for Real Madrid’s Champions League clash with Chelsea, after testing negative for Covid at the last chance, having missed the trip with his team

  • Carlo Ancelotti tested positive for Covid-19 last week and missed a LaLiga game
  • The Italian did not travel with the Real Madrid squad to London yesterday
  • However he tested negative this morning and will be present on the touchline
  • Ancelotti returns to a club where he won the league and cup double in 2010

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has tested negative for Covid-19 and will be present at Stamford Bridge tonight as his side take on Chelsea in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Ancelotti tested positive for Covid-19 last week, with his son and assistant Davide in charge for the club’s 2-1 LaLiga victory at Celta Vigo on Saturday, and did not travel with the squad on Tuesday.

Yet having taken another PCR test on Wednesday morning, the club confirmed that the Italian will travel to London this morning to meet up with the squad.

A club statement read: ‘Real Madrid CF announces that our coach Carlo Ancelotti has tested negative for COVID-19, so he will travel to London this morning to join the first team training camp.’

Madrid confirmed last Wednesday that Ancelotti had tested positive for Covid and he he has since been isolating at home – although it is unclear whether he has been carrying any symptoms.

Ancelotti will make his return to a club where he won the double in 2010 before he was sacked a year later.

Despite Ancelotti’s absence at the weekend, Real still got back to winning ways under the caretaker charge of Davide Ancelotti, with two Karim Benzema penalties seeing off Celta Vigo.

Madrid had gone into the game off the back of a shock 4-0 hammering by Barcelona at the Bernabeu that had come following five consecutive victories.

Having previously won the Champions League three times as a manger, Ancelotti’s experience will be crucial to the Spanish league leaders as they look to beat a team who knocked them out at the semi-final stage last season.

On that occasion, Chelsea progressed to the final – where they beat Manchester City – with a 3-1 aggregate victory against Madrid.
