Doctor ER Jordan Wagner, a real life ER doctor, has released a new video on his YouTube video that has him analyzing some of the most brutal Fatal Blows and Fatalities in Mortal Kombat 1. This time, however, it seems that he’s teamed up with Noah Fleder, Kenshi’s face model and motion capture actor for eight characters, to react to this latest batch of scenes from Mortal Kombat 1.
Upon seeing Jax’s contribution of Johnny Cage’s Fatal Blow, Fleder asked Wagner if the height that Jax performs a backbreaker would be enough to do the damage shown in Mortal Kombat 1. Wagner noted that a spinal cord injury is possible, but an explosion of the vertebrae would probably require an even greater height.
Upon seeing Johnny Cage breaking the opponent’s ribs by crushing them with a camera, Wagner ends up asking Fleder if he’s ever broken someone else’s ribs before from his time as a martial artist and stuntman. Fleder admitted that it has happened before, and that he was able to really feel the “crunch” when it happened. Needless to say, he felt bad about it.
It’s also revealed that it would be possible for a character like Kitana to stab through a skull with her bladed fans, but only if she were strong enough and applied enough force with her weapons. Without the proper amount of force, Wagner says that a knife or bladed weapon could just simply “slide off” as the stab attempt occurs.
Fleder noted that the way that Liu Kang initiates his Fatal Blow (cartwheel kick) isn’t effective as a real attack since the user would probably just fall on their head upon connecting due to the way momentum works. Of course, it probably still works within the universe of Mortal Kombat due to the fact that Liu Kang is an actual fire god.
