The defeat means below par Tottenham have crashed out of two competitions in four days after they suffered a 4-0 defeat to Liverpool on Thursday in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup.

Unai Emery’s men needed just 58 seconds to open the scoring when Jacob Ramsey finished off a superb run with a fine finish.

Rogers doubled the home side’s lead in the 64th minute following Pedro Porro’s poor clearance for his 11th goal of the season.

Marcus Rashford, who joined Aston Villa on loan from Manchester United in the January transfer window came off the bench to make his debut in the second half.

It was their first victory in the fourth round for the first time in the last 10 years in the competition.

Jacob Ramsey was delighted to play a key role in ending the poor run.

He said: “I’ve been in the first team for four or five years and we have been getting knocked out (of the FA Cup) in the first or second game. So, we wanted to put on a performance for the fans and we did that today.”

Unai Emery hailed the players for their impressive performance to qualify for the fifth round.

He said: “It was a fantastic match against a very difficult team. We played really, very well, and after a long time we weren’t achieving to be in the fifth round, of course very happy and very happy for our supporters.”

Aston Villa will be back in action in the Premier League against Ipswich Town on Saturday, while Tottenham will take on Manchester United on Sunday.
