This weekend will likely go down in the history books with Collision 2023 providing some of the craziest matches witnessed in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s competitive history.
Now that the battles to determine who would make it to the next Smash Ultimate Summit have come to a close at the event, we’ve decided to take a closer look at which characters made the biggest impact — including some we don’t see very often reaching finals day.
We know we’ve probably said this multiple times in the past, but Collision’s top 64 for Ultimate ended up having some having some of the most diversity in the game as far as how many showed up to play.
By our count there were a whopping 49 fighters who saw play in the top 64, and 38 of them represented different main choices.
The most popular characters of the weekend were actually Snake, R.O.B. and Steve, and while none of their players managed to reach finals day, there were multiple Snakes and Steve’s who came close in the top 16.
Collision’s top 8 featured complete diversity as well with 8 different character specialists bringing along some usual suspects like Kazuya, Cloud, Sonic and Diddy Kong.
They weren’t the ones who arguably stole the show, however, as WF|Skyjay and Lima wowed the crowd with their world-class Incineroar and Bayonetta respectively — especially Skyjay’s monumental performance.
