Fighting game legend Justin Wong has been on an absolute tear online ever since the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection dropped. Widely considered the best player to ever grace the sticks in Marvel vs. Capcom 2, JWong has been running the gauntlet online and showing folks what Mahvel is all about.
Justin is such a strong player, in fact, that in the early days after the collection’s release some players who ran into him online were getting refunds on the game after losing so badly. However, this short clip from one of his recent online sets proves that the legend is indeed human and can actually bleed…
Now, let’s be real. Justin Wong probably still isn’t human, but a god amongst men. That being said, it’s nice to see that even he has moments where his unstoppable force is tamed.
JWong is currently in Thailand for the Thaiger Uppercut tournament and ran a live stream a couple of days ago from his hotel room. During the stream, Justin took the time to get some Marvel vs. Capcom 2 practice in, which lead to him running two first-to-10 sets against a player by the name of Anakaris Curse.
For the first set, both players ran low tier teams. Justin selected Jin, Cyclops, and Hayato, while his opponent ran a squad of Ruby Heart, Anakaris, and Sonson.
This first set is a great watch and you can find the whole stream VOD here. But for now, let’s just focus on the clip that Justin himself shared on Twitter.
“Matches be sweaty against Anakaris Curse,” wrote JWong in the tweet. The 14 second highlight features both players down to their last fighters as Wong’s Cyclops is very close to being KO’d and Anakaris Curse’s Sonson sits with about 30% health left.
If you’re familiar with Justin Wong’s Marvel vs. Capcom 2 play, then you know this man loves to play lame. That’s exactly what we see here as his Cyclops super jumps off screen to avoid Sonson’s giant ape super.
Justin keeps Cyclops in the air by whiffing optic blasts, still off screen, and he’s able to stay up there out of reach for about eight real life seconds thanks to a whiffed super. However, Anakaris Curse had the perfect solution for this and used Sonson’s big staff super to hit from the top of the screen at the precise angle to hit JWong out of the air and snag the victory.
We see Justin on stream react with a totally shocked face before bowing his head in disbelief. The play here from Anakaris Curse was incredibly smart and masterfully executed.

Let’s be real, Justin Wong is and always will be the MvC2 GOAT. But let’s just take some time to appreciate this high level Mahvel with the above clip and the stream VOD it came from.
