Last month, Raphael Varane announced his retirement from professional football.
He suffered a knee injury during his debut for Como in a Coppa Italia match against Sampdoria.
Varane had to be substituted just 23 minutes into the game.
The French centre back was removed from Como’s Serie A squad, due to the severity of the injury.
The club knew that he would be out of action for a long period of time.

After his retirement, Varane announced that he would continue at Como, but did not specify what role he would adopt.
A statement read: ‘And so, a new life begins off the pitch. I will remain with Como.
‘Just without using my boots and shin pads. Something I am looking forward to sharing more about soon.’
Now, it has been confirmed that he will become a board member at the Italian club.
Varane will advise Como on youth development, education, and product innovation.

Today, the club announced his new role in a statement by the player himself.
‘Being a top-level sportsman comes with joy, sacrifice, and the constant drive to push beyond limits,’ he noted.
‘Throughout my career, I’ve been motivated by a desire to improve and strive for excellence.
‘Transitioning from the field to the boardroom isn’t the end of my football journey; it’s a new beginning that I’m looking forward to.
‘Joining the board of Como allows me to continue contributing to the sport while shaping its future,’ Varane said.
Raphael Varane made 68 appearances for United and won two trophies with the club – the EFL cup and the FA Cup.
He will go down as one of the best defenders of his generation and a legend of the game.
