In a new video TrueUnderDawgGaming has taken on the task of ranking most every Mortal Kombat entry (yes, this includes the spinoffs) in terms of the characters that were available for players to use.
True orders the 18 franchise entries across five different tier levels: The Best, Iconic, Good, Lacking, and “Bruh”. Find out how things shook out by clicking the jump below.
One game makes it way to the very top in a fairly matter of fact manner and long time fans of the series can probably guess which one it is: Mortal Kombat Armageddon.
This capstone of the 3D MK era sacrificed a lot in the way of polish to ensure that every single Mortal Kombat character that had appeared up until that point (Armageddon dropped in 2006) was on the roster. This ended up meaning a whopping 62 characters (which is a lot even by modern standards including DLC) were available.
While one could argue the quality of execution in Armageddon (some characters were extremely similar and unique Fatalities were traded for the somewhat bland and repetitive custom kill sequences) the quantity was and still is undeniable.
Two other titles made it into the The Best tier along with Armageddon while there are four games in each of the middle tiers and then just three populate the bottom rung. Of these three, two are non-fighting game spinoffs, but one is a standard MK entry that basically tried to deviate from the norm just a bit too greatly.
