SACRAMENTO — After a stretch of dry wintry days, the north state will get wetter and snowier midweek, with showers giving way to stronger precipitation over the weekend.
Tuesday’s forecast from the National Weather Service’s Sacramento office anticipates light rainfall starting Wednesday night and continuing into Thursday in the valley and foothills, with light snow in the mountains. Friday, the rain and snow will intensify, and winds are expected Saturday.
“Low impact rain showers (are) expected late Wednesday to Thursday with a quick moving system,” NWS Sacramento said. “A wetter weather system then drops down into (Northern California), bringing renewed rain chances to the area Friday and into the weekend.”
Butte County areas could see more than an inch of rain Friday through Sunday along with wind gusts over 40 mph. The snow level is expected to increase up to a foot between 3,500- and 4,500-foot elevations those days.
