Though we don’t see the iconic dragon logo or hear the words “Finish Him” at any point, we’re about 90% sure this epic, laser-wielding dance is a direct reference to Mortal Kombat.
The person out on the floor looks almost exactly like Raiden from Mortal Kombat, uh… the first, and the thumping techno beats that drive the dance take us right back to the epic tracks of the original live action Mortal Kombat film. Plus, who else but the god of thunder and lightning could grab laser beams?
That’s right, the dance sees Raiden appear to actually grab onto the beams of light in front of him and incorporate them into his routine as though they were lightsabers.
The trick is likely some handheld laser projectors paired with hours of practice to make it looks as though the lasers on the dance floor seamlessly transfer into the dancer’s hands, but however it’s done our brains were sold.
At one point, about 41 seconds in, it looks like the dancer even pays homage to the original Raiden’s neutral fighting stance as he briefly spins back and forth holding his arms just like we saw the character do back in 1992.
Check it all out for yourself below. The video is only about a minute long, but you’ll probably end up watching it two or three times as your mind tries to keep up with what your eyes are seeing.
