Mission
- The purpose of the electronic technician is to assess, repair, and test electronic equipment and systems to ensure their functionality and reliability. Playing a crucial role in diagnosing faults, generating repair quotations, conducting testing procedures, and providing technical support, the technician also contributes to various tasks such as design, prototyping, quality control, and administrative duties
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
Installation and Setup:
- Program and load images, firmware, and audio files onto units.
- Perform installation and setup of electronic equipment, including but not limited to sensors, control systems, and communication devices.
- Ensure proper wiring, connections, and configurations according to specifications and safety standards.
- Assist in installations at final client sites, which may include mines or other locations.
- Perform potting of electronic components or assemblies in protective compounds or resins.
Maintenance and Repair:
- Conduct routine maintenance checks and inspections to identify and address any issues with electronic equipment.
- Assess damage on incoming repair units, diagnose malfunctions and perform repairs or component replacements as necessary to restore functionality. This may involve soldering, circuit testing, and calibration procedures.
- Generate repair quotations based on the extent of damage and required repairs.
Troubleshooting:
- Utilize technical knowledge and diagnostic tools to troubleshoot complex electronic systems and identify root causes of problems.
- Analyse circuit diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation to isolate faults and implement effective solutions in a timely manner.
- Analyse technical issues, identify problems, and develop solutions to resolve them promptly.
Testing and Quality Assurance:
- Design basic test equipment for PCBs or products and implement Engineer Change Orders (ECOs) as required.
- Perform bord-level testing of products to ensure functionality and reliability.
- Conduct comprehensive testing and evaluation of electronic components and systems to ensure performance and reliability.
- Use testing equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and signal generators to verify functionality and adherence to specifications.
- Conduct quality control checks on repaired units.
- Ensure adherence to quality assurance standards and procedures.
Assembly and Prototyping:
- Assist in the assembly and disassembly of units.
- Assist with wiring and prototype building tasks as needed.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of equipment installations, maintenance activities, and repair procedures.
- Generate reports detailing findings, recommendations, and actions taken to address electronic issues. Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members to facilitate collaboration and knowledge sharing.
- Verify the ATPs (Acceptance Test Procedures) and ATCs (Acceptance Test Criteria) of new products.
- Manage technical stock control and book-backs.
- Perform general administrative work related to repair operations.
- Label and package repaired units for shipment or distribution.
Compliance and Safety:
- Adhere to industry regulations, safety protocols, and quality standards in all aspects of work.
- Follow proper procedures for handling hazardous materials, electrical hazards, and safety precautions to minimize risks to personnel and equipment.
- Continuous Learning:
- Stay abreast of advancements in electronic technology, tools, and techniques through ongoing training and professional development.
- Pursue opportunities for certifications or specialized training to enhance skills and expertise in specific areas of electronic systems.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Provide general assistance to engineers.
- Assist in PCB design and firmware design, as needed.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Learning and Growth:
- Keep abreast of advancements in CAD technology, drafting techniques, and industry best practices. Continuously improve skills and knowledge through professional development opportunities and training programs.
- Participate in activities as described in Personal Development Plan, as agreed with the technical department manager.
- Facilitate knowledge sharing and skills development processes (best practice, lessons learnt, etc.).

Required Skills and Capabilities
- Beginner experience required in troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining electronic equipment.
- Intermediate experience in a variety of electronic systems and equipment, including but not limited to PCBs, control systems, instrumentation, and communication devices.
Educational Qualifications
- BTech or diploma in electronics engineering technology, electrical engineering technology, or a related field is required.
- Certification or training from recognized institutions or organizations in specific areas of electronics may be beneficial.
