Whilst Manchester United are now on the verge of completing their deal for priority target Manuel Ugarte, new details are emerging around the politics surrounding INEOS affecting the deal.

Ugarte agreed personal terms with United very early on, with the Uruguayan being keen for a move to Old Trafford. However the deal has stalled for over a month due to the vast difference in United and PSG’s valuation of the player.

At one point the difference looked to be too great to over come with United reportedly abandoning the deal, however this appears to be false, with the two clubs continuing to negotiate.

Now, it looks as though the midfielder is set to join United in a loan deal with an obligation to buy for £51 million (€60 million).

However, new reports are emerging highlighting that there have been other factors at play, stalling the deal.

Reports from The Transfers Podcast with Duncan Castles are now suggesting that the relationship between the clubs’ owners has been a direct influence over the deal for Ugarte.

It was discussed as a “battle of egos”, with PSG owners not happy with Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS beating Sheikh Jassim to buying the minority stake at Old Trafford. The result of this is the relationship between INEOS and Qatar now being a complicating factor in the deals between the two clubs.

It’s unsure at this time if this also played a factor on PSG’s interest in Jadon Sancho, however that deal appears to have fallen through.
