PSG in contact to sign Marcus Rashford

Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford has been the subject of long-standing interest from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), with the French giants’ admiration for the English forward no secret.

Despite Marcus Rashford currently wearing the claret and blue of Aston Villa, where he’s been impressing, it’s intriguing to think how close he came to joining PSG in the summer of 2022.

At that time, PSG had an ambitious plan to replace Neymar with the Manchester United man, with meetings between Rashford’s representatives and PSG’s hierarchy, including sporting director Leonardo, intensifying.

The talks were reportedly moving forward, and Rashford had even given the go-ahead for a move.

However, the situation changed dramatically in May 2022 when Leonardo was replaced by Luis Campos as PSG’s sporting director.

It was at this juncture that negotiations started to stall, with former PSG sporting director Antero Henrique and agent Pini Zahavi influencing the direction of talks, ultimately complicating matters.

According to L’Equipe, had Leonardo remained in his position, Marcus Rashford would likely have been a PSG player by now.

With Campos stepping in and complications arising from Zahavi’s involvement, the move fell through.

The transfer saga has continued to evolve, as reports indicate that Rashford’s entourage has recently reconnected with PSG’s current management.

Though Rashford opted to stay in England during the January transfer window amid interest from Olympique de Marseille, the situation may shift again this summer.

Rashford’s loan move from Manchester United to Aston Villa reportedly includes a £40 million buy option, and it remains uncertain whether Villa will exercise that option.

Meanwhile, PSG continues to pursue a forward, which could see their interest in Rashford rekindled.

With Rashford’s future hanging in the balance, PSG may once again look to bring him to the French capital in the coming transfer window.

This summer could be the turning point for Marcus Rashford, and Manchester United may find themselves involved in yet another pivotal transfer decision, as the future of their star forward remains uncertain.
