Propaganda, Politics and Nigerian Media —By Abdullahi Yuguda

Political attacks, political vendetta and propaganda seem to be consuming Nigeria's political atmosphere with the media as critical agents.

As prelude to the last general elections, the AIT for instance played propaganda card against PMB chiefly to PUNCH his political ego and leave him under THE SUN. With this, you discover that THISDAY, the mass media doesn't stand as VANGUARD for a NEW NIGERIA, that is why the truth always suffer.

However, if the press is to be seen as GUARDIAN of the people for good LEADERSHIP,  the journalists must report factually in order to earn DAILY TRUST from the public.

Contrary to the above, the ethics of the profession is deflated, leaving THE NATION'S press, purely bias. As it stands, only TIMES will TELL if the CHANNELS for safeguarding our DAILY INDEPENDENCE will be guaranteed by a government assumed to be democratic. This is because only through objectivity can the Nigerian press stand as NATIONAL MIRROW for objectivity.

As the unethical reporting continue DAILY, typical NIGERIAN OBSERVER, seem to lost confidence, even as they still direct their arsenal on the NIGERIAN WORLD to see which medium will revert to the original mandate of informing, educating and entertaining the society. Questions, such as  which Nigerian medium will take the BUSINESS DAY to entrench objectivity, becomes neccesary.

Observations revealed that the most painful practice by the Nigerian media, is their romance with sitting governments. Since he who pays the piper dictates the tune becomes the order, any medium endorsed by government or mafias for propaganda purpose, becomes CHAMPION of itself especially, where impunity strives.

Where impunity defines house style, the biased media therefore robs the public of their freedom, sets personal agenda to satisfy their sponsors, thereby making them DAILY POST every nonsense at their disposal and expect to be seen as making sense.

On their part, rather than serve as ADVOCATE of the press even as PREMIUM TIMES, the PEOPLE DAILY complains of the press as new PILOTS of Nigeria's problems.

While the press in other countries are created for public good, the case is different with Nigeria, where the press stand to serve individuals. For instance, when Amaechi refused to give TIDE to the then ABUJA ENQUIRER, during the last dispensation, he saw himself been negatively reported with scary ORHOBO VOICE and BIAFRANIGERIAWORLD. While others reported him as being disloyal to Jonathan, others attributed his woes to impatience with patience.

However, which ever way you see it, the best way for the press to maintain NATIONAL ACCORD in present TIMES OF NIGERIA's democracy, we must begin to air the truth as NAIJA CURRENT News. For instance, we must ensure ANNOUNCER EXPRESSes and respects FRESH FACTS of THE MOMENT, with national outlook, not as EDOWORLD or OSUN DEFENDER, to avoid NAIJALEAKs in our news.

For this life, mek man try do good, because not in go hide and every tin go COMPASS. If we no free, our media go de report play play like DAILY SPORTS.

My advise as a stakeholder in the pen profession, is that even if you find yourself in troubled Borno or Yobe, just be PRUDENT, consider yourself as  NATIONAL CRUSADER by being VERBATIM in approach, INSIGHT in digging facts, maintain the ethics of the profession and serve well even as SAHARA REPORTER or THE GONG.

If all these and other journalistic ingredients are put in place, we shall be counted as PIONEERS of the new order, belong to THE UNION of world press by wearing the regalia of GLOBAL CONCORD, having our media contents serve GLOBAL POST before we can safely sit back and feel COMMUNITY PULSE from the media lane.
