Promoter Eddie Hearn offers Jake Paul a former Olympian as a replacement for Tommy Fury

Promoter Eddie Hearn offers Jake Paul a former Olympian as a replacement for Tommy Fury

It seems that the scheduled bout between Jake Paul and Tommy Fury has fallen into complete chaos, but another Brit could yet save the day.

The fight between Paul and Fury was signed and set for August 6 at Madison Square Garden, but it has now been put in jeopardy, after it was reported earlier this week that Fury had been prevented from entering America.

Since then, Paul appears to have grown tired of trying to accommodate Fury and he announced on Twitter that he had instructed his team to find him a new opponent.

Never one to miss an opportunity, promoter Eddie Hearn quickly piped up on Twitter offering up former Great Britain Olympian, Cheavon Clarke.

“Jake Paul 2-0 and ready,” Hearn said, in response to Clarke tweeting, “Yo Eddie Hearn my passport is ready.”

This comes after Hearn had already planted the idea in Paul’s head when the pair were co-promoting the undisputed lightweight world title clash between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano.

Hearn spent the week taunting Paul for his ‘average’ boxing ability and the social media star turned boxer clapped back by saying he could beat anyone under 10-0 on the Matchroom Boxing roster.

“Anybody, any weight under 10-0?” Hearn replied. “I’ve got about 400 of them. Cheavon Clarke is 1-0, he boxed in the Olympics, didn’t medal, he’s just had one professional fight.

“He’s a cruiserweight, you can have him. I’ll be careful with the price, I’ve got fighters for you. Any time, I hope you do [move up the ranks].”

Since then Clarke has added another win to his professional record.

But he still falls within the criteria of being under 10-0 and he would fulfil Paul’s wish of wanting to fight a ‘real boxer’.
