The Premier League has announced that the number of COVID-19 cases have fallen to its lowest figures since early December.
In the latest round of testing, there were only 16 new positives cases on players and club staff between January 17 and 23.

However, only two positive COVID-19 tests were recorded out of 2,090 tests conducted between January 21 and 23.
A Premier League statement said: “This is the fourth week in a row the number of positive results has decreased and the lowest number of positives in a week since December 5.
“The safety of everyone remains a priority and the Premier League is taking all precautionary steps in response to the impact of the Omicron variant.
“The League has reverted to its emergency measures and has increased testing of players and club staff.”

The Premier League continues to observe the current protocols which includes wearing a face mask, social distancing where possible, limited treatment time and undertaking regular COVID-19 tests.
In line with government guidance, the Premier League will undertake regular lateral flow tests and individuals who tests positive have to take a PCR test immediately.
There will be no top flight action over the next two weeks due to the winter break. League games will resume on Tuesday February 8.
