Premier League: Zirkzee Scores As Manchester United Defeat Fulham At Old Trafford

Manchester United's Joshua Zirkzee Celebrates His Goal Against Fulham

Manchester United started the 2024-2025 Premier League season with a 1-0 win over Fulham at Old Trafford on Friday night.

The Red Devils snatched a late win courtesy of an 87th minute goal by new signing, Joshua Zirkzee to grab the maximum points.

The visitors frustrated Erik Ten Hag’s men for the better part of the game before losing concentration in the dying moments.

Ten Hag handed another new signing, Noussari Mazraoui his first start as Mason Mount started as a striker.

Super Eagles duo of Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey completed the duration of the match for Fulham.

Onana made a superb save in the first half to deny Fulham’s Tete as both teams failed to break the deadlock in the opening period.

Substitute Alejandro Garnacho assisted Joshua Zirkzee, who produced a tidy finish on his Manchester United debut to lead them to victory.

Manchester United coach, Erik Ten Hag was delighted with the positive start to the season and boasted that the team is ready to win more trophies.

He said: “I think the performance was okay. The win is very pleasing, To start the season with a win is always important. We are not ready as a squad, as a team, many players are not up to full fitness. We only had 10 days with this team training together.

“I expect more from this team, but we have a foundation we can build on.

“The performance is good, over 90 minutes of course there is room for improvement. But I think all over the performance and execution of the game plan was very good.”

“It was very important to get the first goal as a striker. For him it is very pleasing because strikers have to score. That is the first ability you have to show when you come as a striker to a new club.

“Of course trophies we take on board, that is for the history, no-one can take this away from you. We start on zero going into the next season and we are very ambitious, we want to win more trophies. We want to compete in every league we play in and now we have a platform.”

Up next for Manchester United is a trip to Brighton next Saturday, while Fulham welcomes Leicester City to the Craven Cottage on the same day.
