Preliminary 2023 General Election Results: Seattle City Council On Track To Be Very Diverse

In the preliminary results of the general election for Seattle City Council districts, newcomers are emerging as front-runners, promising a fresh political landscape for the city. With many incumbent council members opting not to seek re-election, these initial figures showcase a wave of fresh faces vying for seats on the council that, if elected, will make the Seattle City Council very diverse.

District 1 shows Rob Saka leading with 58.65% of the vote, ahead of Maren Costa with 40.77%.

District 2 sees Tanya Woo in the lead with 54.24% of the vote, with Tammy J. Morales close behind at 45.33%.

District 3 has Joy Hollingsworth in the lead with 58.28% of the vote, followed by Alex Hudson with 41.35%.

District 4 shows Maritza Rivera leading with 55.33% of the vote, while Ron Davis trails with 44.23%.

District 5 sees Cathy Moore in the lead with 70.14% of the vote, while ChrisTiana ObeySumner follows with 29.45%.

In District 6, Pete Hanning takes the lead with 50.75% of the vote, closely followed by Dan Strauss with 48.70%.

District 7 sees Bob Kettle leading with 55.79% of the vote, while Andrew J. Lewis trails with 43.81%.

All the candidates in these districts are newcomers except for incumbents Andrew J. Lewis and Dan Strauss, who are facing strong challenges in their bids for re-election. While it’s still too early to call the final outcome, these preliminary results paint a picture of a city council with a significant infusion of fresh faces. As counting continues, the final results will determine the makeup and direction of the Seattle City Council for the coming term.

In addition to contested races for the Seattle City Council, there are several closely contested races are taking shape in Renton, Kent, Federal Way, and surrounding areas, that may not be settled until the final votes are tallied.

Seattle School District: In the race for Director District No. 3, Evan Briggs holds a slim lead with 51.08% of the vote over Ben Gitenstein with 48.45%.

City of Renton: City Council Position No. 7 sees Kim-Khanh Van ahead with 53.05% of the vote, while Randy Corman trails with 46.64%.

Kent School District: In the race for Director District No. 3 Leslie Kae Hamada is leading with 50.64% of the vote, with Donald Cook trailing at 48.54%.
