Aston Villa faces the prospect of being without key defender Ezri Konsa for an extended period, as reported by the Telegraph.
The player is confirmed to miss the upcoming match against Manchester United this weekend, following an injury sustained during Villa’s recent victory over Sheffield United. Konsa, who has been a constant presence in Villa’s defense, starting every Premier League match this season and the last, injured his knee after a collision with the goalpost.
This setback comes at a time when Villa is already dealing with the absence of several key players. Pau Torres has been sidelined for the past six league games due to an injury, adding to the defensive woes for Villa.
Furthermore, Lucas Digne and Tyrone Mings are also out of action, with Mings having missed almost the entire season with a knee injury. Given these circumstances, it’s likely that Emery will opt for a back four consisting of Matty Cash, Diego Carlos, Clement Lenglet, and Alex Moreno for Sunday’s match at Villa Park.
Additionally, Villa could be without Nicolo Zaniolo for the game against United, while Emiliano Buendia and Jhon Duran are confirmed absences. On the Manchester United front, the team will be missing Lisandro Martinez and Anthony Martial for the upcoming fixture. However, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Tyrell Malacia, and Mason Mount are nearing their returns to the squad.
Manchester United is coming off a 3-0 victory over West Ham United, with Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho scoring. Aston Villa, meanwhile, secured a 5-0 win against Bramall Lane. In the previous encounter between these two teams on Boxing Day at Old Trafford, Villa had relinquished a two-goal lead, with Garnacho scoring twice and Hojlund also finding the net. Currently, Aston Villa is eight points ahead of Manchester United, eyeing a spot in the Champions League for the first time in the club’s history.
