And it certainly wasn’t in the patch notes
The internet has changed the way the fighting game community interacts with their favorite genre, and one of those is of course the introduction of memes.
We’ve now apparently reached the point where a popular Street Fighter 6 meme has officially made its way into the game apparently via the new Terry Bogard update though it definitely wasn’t mentioned in the patch notes.
On top of all the awesome classic Fatal Fury Easter eggs Terry launched with, players also came to quickly discover a curious kid running around the game’s World Tour mode.
Although it seems like his name changes depending on the user, his appearance and what he has to say remains the same from multiple examples we’ve seen.
And that is:
“When I grow up, I’m gonna be someone like Luke, win the whole shebang, and drive down to Memphis! Yeah!”
Now if you don’t follow SF6 closely on social media or the tournament scene, that may sound like just a random or innocuous statement, but it seems this meme is now at least somewhat canon to the world of Street Fighter.

The origins came from Luke’s voice line during his level 3 Super Art where some people have a hard time hearing what he’s actually saying while beating down the opponent.
That even includes Mortal Kombat champion SonicFox asking about it, which led to popular fighting game streamer and content creator Maximilian Dood gaslighting them that the line is, “We’re all going to Memphis.”
It was then solidified when Luke’s English voice actor, Aleks Le, jumped in and released an “enhanced” recording of the Memphis line.
This led to the phrase becoming popular among commentators and crowd chants at SF6 tournaments ever since when Luke’s level 3 is on screen.
“I love the fgc & I love fighting games,” is all Le has had to say about the meme actually making its way into the game now, who pretty much single-handedly raised the stocks of Luke among the fan base for his online posts, jokes and streams for the new protagonist.

And now that goofy line will live in the game forever.
