The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has invited the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, for questioning following the reported outbreak of violence during the recent Eid-el-Fitr procession in Kano State.
The clash reportedly led to the loss of life of a vigilante member, Surajo Rabiu, and left another, identified as Aminu Suleman, injured.
In a letter dated April 4, 2025, and signed by Commissioner of Police, Olajide Rufus Ibitoye, on behalf of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Intelligence Department (FID), Abuja, the emir is expected to honour the invitation on Tuesday, April 8.
The letter reads, “I have the directives of the Inspector General of Police, through the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Intelligence Department (FID) to invite you for an investigative meeting with regards to an incident that occurred during the Sallah celebration within your domain.
“In view of the above, you are hereby invited to Force Intelligence Department, opposite Police Force headquarters Area 11, Abuja by 1000hrs of Tuesday 8th of April, 2025
“Your availability is highly sought for a purposeful investigation. Accept the warm regards of the Deputy Inspector General of Police, please.”
Recall that the spokesperson of the Kano State Police Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna, had confirmed that the incident occurred while the local guards were providing a shield for the entourage of Emir Sanusi II on their return from the Kofar Mata Eid prayer ground after observing the two-rakat Eid-el-Fitr prayers.
As of the time of filing this report, no official response has been made by the emir regarding the police invitation.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, declined our correspondent’s request for comment on the Emir’s invitation.
