According to police officials, Police at the 23 precinct house were alerted to the incident by a distraught female being chased by a madman armed with a knife.

Two patrol officers and a sergeant made contact with the male in the intersection of E 102nd Street & 3rd Avenue and gave the man multiple orders to drop the knife.

Officials at a press conference said the man lunged at officer with the knife in hand and then ran towards the sidewalk still chasing the female victim.

At this moment police say the suspect lunged at a second officer and that officer discharged her taser but the taser was in effective.

When the officer deployed her taser the suspect attempted to slash the female cop in the face, only missing her by a few inches, cops said.

Authorities say, when the sergeant witnessed the attempted slashing on the female officer he discharged his service weapon, striking the male suspect at least one time in the lower left back buttocks area.
