The Police Command in Nasarawa State says it has rescued two students of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) who were kidnapped on Sunday, March 30.

SP Ramhan Nansel, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, stated this in a statement issued to journalists on Tuesday in Lafia.

The PPRO said that the command received a distress call on Sunday, March 30, that a student’s lodge was attacked around 9:20 pm, and two students were abducted.

“On March 30, at about 9:20pm, we received a distress call of an attack at a student lodge behind Nasara Estate, Tudun Kauri, Lafia.

“During the attack, two students of the Federal University, Lafia, Sadiq Adinoyi and Sakina Adinoyi, were abducted.

“Acting swiftly on the directive of Shetima Jauro-Mohammed, the Commissioner of Police, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and ‘A’ Division, Lafia, were mobilized to track down the perpetrators,” he added.

Nansel further explained that following technical intelligence the rescue team discovered that the victims were held in a forest behind the 500 housing unit along Doma road.

“The team engaged them in a gun duel in the forest, and the police firepower overwhelmed them, and they fled in different directions and abandoned the victims who were safely rescued,” the police spokesperson said.

He added that one suspect, Ibrahim Musa of Abuni village, Awe Local Government Area of the state was arrested at the scene.

He said that the suspect had made a useful confession and was assisting the ongoing investigations.

Nansel, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, appreciated the anti-kidnapping unit for their relentless efforts towards the rescue operation.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling crime head-on and urged officers to remain steadfast in their mission to rid the state of criminal activities.
