Police rescue kidnapped cleric, nab two suspects in Kaduna

Police in Kaduna State, in collaboration with members of a vigilante group, have rescued a cleric who was abducted on November 3.

The police spokesman in the state, ASP Mansur Hassan, stated in Kaduna on Monday that the assailants and the family members of the cleric had agreed to a ransom of N4 million before the police took action.

He explained that the Kafanchan Divisional Police Headquarters received the report of the abduction on November 4, prompting operatives and vigilantes to track down the assailants in Dogon Kurmi Forest, where a gunfight ensued.

“The operatives tactically and successfully dislodged the hoodlums, rescuing the clergyman unharmed.

“Two suspects, residents of Datti and Dogon Kurmi villages, were arrested in connection with the abduction.

“An AK-47 rifle loaded with two rounds of live 7.62 X 39mm ammunition was recovered from the suspects,” Mr Hassan stated.

He added that two of the assailants were still at large but may be nursing gunshot injuries sustained during the gunfight.

Mr Hassan urged members of the public to report any individuals nursing bullet wounds to the nearest police station or any security outfit.
