Police Kill 4 Kidnappers, Recover N3m In Kebbi

The Kebbi State Police Command has eliminated four alleged kidnappers, and rescued a kidnap victim in Suru Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement on Saturday, the command’s spokesman, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, said the victim identified as Umaru Bawa, aged 60, was kidnapped on Friday.

He added that operatives were deployed to the scene to rescue the victim but were engaged in a gun battle by the kidnappers upon arrival.

However, the operatives rescued the abducted victim uninjured and reclaimed the N3m ransom that had already been deposited to the kidnappers in ransom.

“On 14 February, at about 1:45 pm, armed men suspected to be kidnappers invaded Gobiraje Village in Suru Local Government Area of Kebbi and abducted one Umaru Bawa, aged 60.

“Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer in Suru swiftly mobilised a team of policemen and vigilantes to the scene. They tracked the suspects to Tundafari Forest in the Dakingari axis and engaged them in a gun battle.

“As a result, four of the kidnappers were neutralised, one was arrested with fatal injuries, while others fled into the forest with gunshot wounds,” he said.

The Kebbi Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, commended the officers and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to eradicating crime in the state.
