Police Investigate Disappearance Of NYSC Corps Member In Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command has launched a thorough and meticulous investigation into the disappearance of Yahaya Faruk, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member deployed to Community Secondary School, Ikuru Town.

Faruk has been missing since October 14, 2024, sparking widespread concern and prompting a swift response from the police.

According to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, investigation began on October 15, 2024, when the school’s principal, Anderson Awaji Ogbana, reported Faruk’s disappearance to the Ngo Divisional Police Headquarters.

Ogbana’s prompt action set in motion a chain of events that has seen the police leave no stone unturned in their quest to locate the missing corps member.

Further inquiries revealed that Faruk had been engaging in casual employment with LDM Mining Company, also located in Ikuru Town.

The revelation led the police to summon the company’s manager, Wen Hauiguo, for questioning.

During his transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) on October 16, 2024, Wen admitted to employing Faruk as a casual worker on the night shift but claimed unawareness of Faruk’s status as a serving corps member.

Iringe-Koko also noted that the police have also questioned several individuals who worked alongside Faruk during the same shift, including Joseph Godstime, Levi Stephen, Ejit-Awaji Michael, and Ishmael Jireh. All have denied any involvement in the disappearance.

However, the site manager, Lai Ding Chi, disclosed that on the evening of October 14, 2024, between 9:00 and 10:00 PM, two unidentified individuals arrived on a motorcycle and Faruk subsequently left his duty post to accompany them.

Also, on October 18, 2024, the Commissioner of Police personally interviewed all parties involved.

The police are utilizing advanced technology, including surveillance footage and forensic analysis, to aid in the investigation.

In addition, officers from the State CID have been directed to collaborate with the Community Development Committee (CDC) and other key stakeholders in Ikuru Town.

The CDC Chairman has assured the police that the community is fully engaged in the search, extending efforts to neighboring areas. The chairman expressed optimism that positive developments will emerge soon.

Iringe-Koko, reiterated the Command’s commitment to uncovering the circumstances surrounding Faruk’s disappearance.

“We urge anyone with information, no matter how small, to come forward and assist in the investigation. We also call on Faruk’s family to collaborate with the Command as we work tirelessly to ensure his safe return.”
