The Ebonyi State Police Command, Sunday, confirmed the killing of at least two persons over a boundary dispute in the state.
It was gathered that the incident occurred at Ogwor, a community in Ishiagu town in Ivo Local Government Area of the state. No fewer than three persons are missing, villagers claim.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the incident.
He stated that, “Yes two persons were killed. Police have deployed tactical teams to the area and restored normalcy. Investigation has commenced into the matter.”
Sources within the community alleged that unknown invaders attacked a farm located at the boundary between the community and neighbouring Omobor Community of Akaeze town and attacked farmers.
They further alleged that an aged woman from the community and a labourer said to be from Ezza clan who was helping to cultivate the farm were killed by the assailants.
The attackers were from Omobor, Akaeze community, which has been having boundary disputes spanning decades, it was heard.
“Akaeze people invaded our farm and killed an aged woman working in her farm and also shot an Ezza man working in the same farm,” the natives claim.
The chairman of the LGA, Mr Emmanuel Ajah, condemned the killings.
In his words, “This is a resultant effect of a land dispute between the two communities which has lasted for decades. My administration has done its best to handle this issue since we came on board.
“A committee I formed has mediated on this issue and came up with a resolution that the said land shall be parcelled this November 2024; a solution adopted by the stakeholders of the two communities, but to my surprise, this evil act came up.”
